Starwood Looks to Turn Little Changes Into Big Doings at Louis Joliet Mall

General manager Kate Knuth told Joliet City Council members the folks at Louis Joliet Mall are looking forward to a robust holiday shopping season.

One hundred fifty-thousand dollars in new landscaping. New exterior signage. A one-of-a-kind Jared Jewelry Boutique.

And holiday decorations.

All were part of the snapshot presentation Louis Joliet Mall general manager Kate Knuth provided to the Joliet City Council during Tuesday night’s meeting at City Hall as a way to let local residents and members of the council know what’s new and what’s going on at the mall.

“I want to give the council a general update—just let them know how well things are going out at the mall and how we can anticipate seeing some more improvements, interior/exterior at the center,” Knuth said. “And we’re really looking forward to a robust holiday.”

Knuth said Louis Joliet Mall—owned by Starwood Retail Partners—has retained a 98-percent occupancy rating for some time now. So, there are virtually no vacancies. But she said if anyone is interested in being at the mall or leasing, they should call to speak with a rep at (815) 439-1001.

“Right now, we’re re-investing a little bit in our holiday program and our holiday decor,” Knuth said. “So, you’ll see new things outside, lots of lights, lots of color, lots of music—really getting into the holiday spirit. And, then, we’re also doing some major exterior landscaping improvements. So, you’ll be able to see those, too.

“As soon as you hit the curb, it will be all new. There is going to be some curb appeal.”

Knuth said curb appeal is importan on a number of levels—not just aesthetic.

“We want to create a warm, comfortable environment so people can relax,” she said. “They can shop. They can be entertained. They can go to dinner.

"And, really, it’s a good demonstration of Starwood re-investing in the properties, you know, purchasing the property, seeing the potential of the regional shopping center and how important it is to the city and community and then putting the money back in where we can see it.”
