O'Reilly Auto Parts Building Store on Former Miss Camille's Site

Construction has started on the new building at 2224 W. Jefferson St., which will replace the existing O'Reilly store just a few doors away.

A new O'Reilly Auto Parts store is being built on the former site of Miss Camille's Variety Club in Joliet.

Work is under way on the building at 2224 W. Jefferson St., which is expected to cost about $670,000, according to the permit pulled by contractor Lagestee-Mulder.

"It's nice to see something going up on the site, which had been such an eyesore," said Dave Mackley, who oversees the city of Joliet's Building and Inspection Services Department.

The only downside will be the building left empty at 2200 W. Jefferson St., which O'Reilly will vacate in a few months to move into its new location.

Store manager Rich, who declined to provide his last name, said the new spot will actually be slightly smaller than the store they're currently in, but the company wanted to own its own building rather than leasing space. He wasn't sure when they would be relocating, but that all of the employees would move with them to the new store, he said.

Miss Camille's was in business for a few years in the mid-2000s, but closed in 2008 and fell into disrepair when the owner could not sell it. Many years prior to that, it had been a Red Lobster restaurant.

When the building became a dangerous, the city declared it a nuisance and tore it down in 2012.
