Breast Cancer Event Kick-Off

Breast cancer survivors and community members in Joliet will unite to share their stories at an inspirational Kick-Off for the American Cancer Society’s Second Annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer® event from 5:30-7:30 pm August 15 at Cemeno’s Pizza (1630 Essington Rd., Joliet).

Making Strides is the largest network of breast cancer awareness events in the nation, uniting more than 270 communities to fund the fight against breast cancer. The Joliet Making Strides walk is scheduled for Sunday, October 7 at The Chicagoland Speedway.

In 2011, approximately 9,280 cases of breast cancer were diagnosed in Illinois alone. One of every two women newly diagnosed with breast cancer turns to the Society for help and support. Making Strides enables the American Cancer Society to provide free resources and programs to these women, as well as fund groundbreaking research to find, prevent, treat and cure breast cancer and ensure access to mammograms for women who need them.
