Ever wonder what goes on in a theatre when it’s “dark”? Come see for yourself! The magnificent Rialto Square Theatre will be hosting weekday tours from June 11 thru August 31. At the end of each tour you can take a seat in the breathtaking auditorium and listen to the melodious sounds from the extraordinary Barton Grande Theatre Pipe Organ.
Tickets are $5 per person and can be purchased at the Rialto box office. No advance purchase necessary. Groups, however, may make advance purchases in order to assure space. Tour and organ concert times are Monday thru Friday at 10 am and 12 noon. A short video of the theatre being built will play in the box office lobby just prior to the start of each tour. The tour runs approximately 45 minutes with a 45 minute organ concert immediately following.
The tour will start with a brief history of the Rialto while you walk through the grand Esplanade and Rotunda’s beautiful architecture and craftsmanship. Take a picture of the 2.5 ton chandelier, affectionately known as the Duchess and original to the theatre.
You will then go on stage and beyond to the “green room”. There you will see thousands of signatures from the artists who have performed at the Rialto. Feel free to take pictures and ask questions. Also, the Rialto’s staff will be on hand selling mementos to remember your fabulous tour and organ experience.
