FREE “Concerts On The Hill” will begin this Thursday, June 7. Ah, the lazy, hazy days of summer are almost here. Soon sweet serenades will fill evening air for the 38th annual free “Concerts On The Hill” at Billie Limacher Bicentennial Park. The downtown Joliet park proudly presents a variety of wonderful, free entertainment every summer Thursday at 6:30 pm in June, July and August.
We hope you’ll join us!
Come enjoy the best summer has to offer – relaxing in the beautiful outdoors with friends and family and enjoying great entertainment. It’s like a deluxe block party every week...and you don’t even have to bring a dish to pass. Don’t worry about dinner – we have great $2 hot dogs and 50¢ lemonade, among other affordable concessions. Come a little early and stroll the historic walk through the park and along the waterway. And the parking is FREE! Just bring blankets and chairs for hill seating. (We also rent chairs for $1.00, if you want to keep your hands free for that bag of popcorn on the way home.) The smiling faces you see serving up hot dogs are Maria and Bob Comolli, along with other wonderful volunteers serving up popcorn and taking tickets. All here to make concert night an easy, fun weekday night.
From vocalists to musicians to dancers, there’s a little something for everyone. For your enjoyment, the Park proudly brings together many talented artists of all ages from Will County and beyond. The Park is especially proud of its very own house band: The Bicentennial “Pops” Band, lead by Mr. Edward Jones and known for their creatively themed pieces. Mark your calendars for a very special concert Monday, August 27 at 6:30pm: the United States Air Force Band of Mid-America is on tour from Scott Air Force Base will be here – their only Joliet appearance!
The grand opening concert, June 7, will feature The Metropolitan Youth Symphony (lead by Dr. Larry Sisk) and the Joliet American Legion Band (lead by Tom Drake). Emcee for the evening is Bill Drilling and the national anthem is sung by Judge Rodney Lechwar. Each concert in June is sponsored by Wadsworth Golf Construction Company and ushered by the Joliet Exchange Club.
A special thank you to the Joliet Police Department and Joliet Auxiliary Police Association (lead by Chief Karen Arbuthnot). They see to everyone's safe crossing and keep the traffic flowing smoothly, especially with the big crowd on the first night. Come early to get a prime spot, the parking lots and hill fill fast!
See you Thursday!
