What's Happening for Memorial Day: Area Events Roundup
Remember America's fallen servicemen and women this weekend.
Memorial Day isn't about a three-day weekend or a chance to barbecue — it's about honoring servicemen and servicewomen who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

In observance of the national holiday, government offices, banks, schools, libraries and public buildings will be closed, and there will be no mail delivery. Trash pickup will also be delayed by one day.
Here's a look at area events to commemorate fallen members of the U.S Armed Forces on Monday. Click the links for additional information:
Shorewood: The village will host a 5:30 p.m. Memorial Day parade and bicycle decorating contest; the contest is open to kids in age groups 5 to 8 and 9 to 14. Entries for "Most Patriotic Family" are also accepted. Riders must wear helmets, and bikes, wagons and tow-alongs should be decorated in red, white and blue. Entries should line up at 5:30 p.m. at the Towne Center subdivision at Moran and Peyton for judging. A free concert and ice cream social will follow the parade, which begins at 6 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.
Plainfield: American Legion Marne Post #13 will host the annual Memorial Day parade, stepping off at 10:30 a.m. from Ira Jones Middle School, 15320 S. Wallin Drive. Following the parade, a flag-raising ceremony will tak eplace in Settlers' Park at the soldier Memorial.
Romeoville: Join speaker Charles Ray (USMC, Ret.) for the annual event at 10 a.m. at the Edward "Doc" McCartan Veterans Memorial, 11 Montrose Dr. The Romeoville High School Band will perform the national anthem, and the Junior ROTC will present the posting of the colors.
Bolingbrook: From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., members of the Bolingbrook Historic Preservation Commission will host tours and give information of the historic Boardman Cemetery, located off Royce Road on Paxson Drive. Memorial services are also slated for 10:30 a.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery, 384 E. Boughton Road (East of Fire Station #3), and at 11 a.m. at the Town Center Veterans' Memorial, 375 W. Briarcliff Road. The Bolingbrook Lions Club is also hosting a carnival that ends Monday.
Oswego: A Memorial Day parade will step off at 10 a.m. on Franklin Street, heading to the Oswego Township Ceremony for a memorial service hosted by the Oswego American Legion Post #675.
