This Weekend's Weather: Temps in 70s; Heavy Rain, Storms, Flooding Possible

And after this weekend, temps are expected to drop back into the 40s Monday.

It's been a long time since the Chicago-area has experienced 70-degree temps.

As of Friday, just over 180 days to be exact, since temps in the 70s were recorded in Chicago, making this year's streak below the 70-degree mark one of the longest in the weather history books, according to the National Weather Service. The typical long-term average for the first 70-degree day is March 31 for Chicago.

But we may see a break this weekend. Temps in the mid- to upper-70s are expected for many towns throughout the suburbs on Saturday.

But you may want to get out early in the day to enjoy those temps. There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms Saturday afternoon and wind gusts could reach a high of 30 mph for parts of the Chicago area.

More showers and thunderstorms are expected overnight Saturday and those storms could continue into Sunday night for northeast Illinois, according to the NWS. Highs in the 60s are expected for Sunday for many towns throughout the suburbs as well as more showers.

The weekends storms could bring heavy rainfall, especially Sunday evening and night, which could cause rises on area rivers and streams and the possibility of flooding.

And after that: Back to cooler temps. Highs in the 40s are in the forecast Monday.
