Man Hospitalized After Walgreens Pharmacy Gives Him Wrong Prescription: Lawsuit

The man was given high blood pressure medication instead of a prescription for his thyroid problem, police said.

A mixup at a Walgreens pharmacy left a man hospitalized when he took medication that was supposed to be prescribed to someone else, according to a lawsuit filed in Will County court.

Andrews Colon went to the Walgreens on 159th Street in Lockport to pick up prescription thyroid medication in July 2012, the lawsuit said.

While the pill bottle was labeled with Colon's name and address, it actually contained prescription high blood pressure medication for a woman named Evelyna Washington, the suit said.

Colon took one pill each morning, apparently over the course of months, and "began to suffer from symptoms, including headaches, numbness in his arms, and feeling sluggish, resulting in his admission to Bolingbrook Hospital on November 20, 2012," the lawsuit said.

While he was at the hospital, the suit said, "it was discovered that the prescription he was taking was intended for another customer."
