A quick-pick Illinois Lottery ticket purchased at the Thornton Gas and Food Mart on Essington Road has netted a Joliet man a cool $1 million.
Ray Hibler, a married electrical engineer with six children, matched the five numbers pulled in the Sept. 28 Megamillions drawing, according to a story in the Joliet Herald News. Because he also purchased the "megaplier," he quadrupled what would have otherwise been a $250,000 payoff, the story said.
Hibler said that while most of the money would go into investments, he was planning to use some of it for a family vacation to Florida and to replace his 1995 pickup truck, he told the paper.
Thornton station at 1602 Essington Road will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket, which is 1 percent of the jackpot amount.
