JOLIET, Ill. – University of St. Francis junior men's basketball player Andrew Lerg (DeWitt, Mich./ DeWitt) and sophomore women's basketball player Katie Gonnering (Seymour, Wis./ Freedom) have been voted to the 2012-13 Capital One Academic All-District Basketball Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Lerg and Gonnering were both First Team honorees and thus will be eligible for inclusion on the Academic All-America Teams to be announced in late February.
Having started all 25 games this season, Lerg has averaged 10.0 points per contest for the 17-8 Saints. One of the top three-point shooters in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference, he ranks seventh in the league with 2.1 three-point baskets per game and ninth with a .385 percentage.
Lerg has scored in double figures on 11 occasions with a pair of 20-plus efforts. He tallied a season-high 22 points against Trinity Christian College on Nov. 10.
A business management major, Lerg carries a 4.00 grade point average.
One of only two players in the NAIA Division II to rank among the nation’s top 10 in both scoring and rebounding, Gonnering was the fourth-leading scorer (20.7) and 10th-leading rebounder (9.5) in the country through games of Jan. 30.
A three-time CCAC Player of the Week, she has scored in double figures in 17 of 20 games and has recorded nine double-doubles.
Gonnering sports a 4.00 grade point average as a nursing major.
