A Cowboy, a King and Me in Joliet

Pro Wrestling Blitz put on a great show on Saturday in Joliet and I was there to enjoy it.  I missed a few of their recent shows due to scheduling conflicts, but I made sure I was in attendance for their King of Joliet event and I am glad I did!

The evening started with recent Blitz newcomer ring announcer Mr. Ricolo (aka the Hair Extraordinaire) whipping the already lively crowd into a frenzy with his usual high energy.  Ricolo is pure gold on the mic and such a hit with the fans.

At all Bitz events, you are immediately impressed with their production quality.  DJ Bob is at the controls, hitting the music and running video packages, which promote the matches and further the storylines.

The in-ring action started with an 8 man King of Joliet tournament.  Mr. 450 survived 3 matches in earning the crown.  The high-flier surprised everyone by winning each match in a different manner, including one by submission.  You don’t see that much anymore and the crowd appreciated his versatility and effort.

Blitz owner Tony Scarpone announced Chazz Moretti as the new Commissioner of Blitz based on the fans’ vote.  I have seen Moretti in the bad guy role in other wrestling organizations, but at Blitz, he is definitely a good guy.  It was awesome seeing him on the other side of the fence, but still working his magic with his trademark swagger.  The fans love this version of Moretti and I am interested to see where his character goes from here.

Grin and Machine won a 3 team tag bout.  These two have a great gimmick and they work it well, maybe too well.  The fans were cheering these “bad guys” so much, that we might be seeing another turn to the good side.  Either way, this team is entertaining.

In the main event, Ruff Crossing captured the Blitz title by defeating reigning champ Ryan Slade after chasing him for months.  The wildly popular Crossing is one of my favorites.  Yes, I am a Ruffian.  After the match, we even got a quick interview with the champ.

It was a great night of exciting wrestling with a definite old school feel to it.  The one night King tournament was interesting and Mr. 450 winning it by submission caught everyone by surprise.  Grin and Machine have an intriguing future.  Moretti as a good guy Commissioner is loaded with possibilities.  Capping it all was Crossing, a new era guy who is definitely a throwback.

This was fun.  Plain and simple.  Maybe that is why Blitz is doing well.  They keep it simple and fun.  They have good storylines, interesting characters and quality matches.  Add in Mr. Ricolo and DJ Bob and you have the total package.
