The three-day electronic music festival, which tours all over the country, will be unlike anything every produced in the Chicago area.
You may not have heard of the Electric Daisy Carnival, but chances are you'll know it's in town come Memorial Day weekend. In something of a coup for Chicagoland Speedway, the three-day electronic music festival will take over the Joliet racetrack with five live music stages, huge electric art installations, "immersion" art, carnival rides and circus-style performers. About 30,000 people will attend daily, 5,000 of whom will camp on the racetrack grounds at Route 53 and Laraway Road. That's about a third the size of race weekend crowds, but enough to pump as much as $134 million into the Joliet economy based on the numbers generated by a similar-sized Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas a few years ago. That event has since grown and now …

Check out this great photo, sent to us by reader TereseNicole.
This one comes to us from TereseNicole (her online pen name), who snapped this photo of her son and his teammates on the Joliet Central High School sophomore baseball team. It was purely coincidental that they happened to line up in sequential order, but it would have been a great photo even without that. (Her son, by the way, is No. 3.) Hats off to Bob Draznik for this great shot of a church reflected in a rain puddle.
How can we not put spotlight on this stunning, innovative shot from reader Bob Draznik. Capturing a reflection so that it's subject is clear can be tricky even for seasoned shooters, so kudos to Bob for a job nicely done. Want to have your photo be chosen as our Pic of the Day? The one-time Joliet resident lasted seven weeks on "Dancing with the Stars" before finally being eliminated from the celebrity reality show.
Andy Dick said it himself two weeks ago -- who would have thought he'd have made it even this far? After surviving six rounds, it was no huge surprise that the comedic actor and one-time Jolietan would be eliminated Tuesday night in the seventh week of Dancing with the Stars competition. As the judges themselves acknowledged Monday -- amidst boos from the crowd -- with just a handful of dancers left, entertainment value and personality will only get you so far when they're being used to mask stiffness and self-consciousness. And so it was that Dick went out the way he came in: with tears in his eyes and words of gratitude for the chance. "I've been talking about it from day one," he said, speaking after being told that he would not be …
Many thanks to Michael Sims for this great photo! If you have one you want to submit, attach it here and you may see it posted tomorrow.
Today's Pic of the Day comes from Michael Sims, who wrote this caption for the photo he submitted: "Toddlers watch a construction project in Joliet, Illinois." Want to see your amateur photo put in the spotlight? Upload it to this story or email it to karen@patch.com. The topic is up to you. It could be something that catches your eye, a family member or pet doing something cute, a beautiful sunset or a shot of the river. The only limit is your imagination! We'll review them as they come in and will choose the best to be our periodic "Pic of the Day."

Despite a score that put him last place, the Joliet native survived the cut yet again and will be back next week on "Dancing with the Stars."
A mediocre score of 18 could have been enough to send Andy Dick packing Tuesday night, but it was the other comedian on Dancing with the Stars, D.L. Hughley, who won't be coming back. A lucky break for Dick, who performance of the paso doble, the spirited Spanish dance, was not great. Perhaps the only highlight was when the comedic actor -- wearing a face mask and cape -- launched his performance by soaring across the stage on a zip line. Even Dick, a former Joliet resident, had to admit his role as a matador/Zorro-type character was a bit of a stretch. "This week (partner/choreagrapher Sharna Burgess) wants me to play Zorro? Seriously?" he said in an interview prior to the dance. "I'm the furthest thing away from that machismo, 'ole!' …

It also helped him score 21 points and enough audience support to let him move on to week five of "Dancing with the Stars."
As we know by now, fawning judges do not necessarily equal high scores when it comes to Dancing with the Stars, but Andy Dick's marked improvement over last week was enough to buy him another week on the show. This week's dance was the Viennese Waltz, which he and partner Sharna Burgess did to Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah. Dick dedicated his performance to his 15-year-old daughter, Meg, who has been in the audience supporting him every week. And, as he has done in previous shows, Dick discussed his reclaimed sobriety and, in this case, the effect his years of drinking and drug use has had on all three of his children. (He also has two sons, ages 24 and 18.) "My kids have had it hard because I'm their father and my troubles become their …
