Woman Badly Hurt in I-55 Rollover
Illinois State Police say the victim, a Shorewood resident, lost control of her vehicle after being cut off by another driver near Romeoville.
A 34-year-old Shorewood woman was extricated from her car Tuesday morning after another driver cut her off on Interstate 55, causing her to lose control and roll into a ditch, Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Martez Malone said.
The accident occurred at about 8:30 a.m. on northbound I-55 between Weber Road and Route 53, near Romeoville, Malone said.
Although he did not know how many times the vehicle may have rolled, the damage was extensive enough to trap the victim inside, he said. The woman, whose identity was not released, was in serious condition and transported to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, which is the closest Level 1 trauma center.
No information was available on the suspect who caused the accident, other than he was driving a tan car, Malone said.

People drive like morons over there. I see it everyday on my way to work, when they get on 55 from Weber it is a mad dash to the fast lane.

Apparently, you are the moron. You are one of "those" doing 80 mph as you just admitted it.

Same thing when trying to exit onto Joliet Road from I55S. Not many use the on ramp that was constructed for those trying to enter onto I55S from 355. Accident waiting to happen. People need to learn to slow down.

Probably on her cell phone. I have been hit twice while idiots continue to text away.

There is nothing in the text to indicate the driver at fault was a. a woman and b. on her cell phone. You are inventing stories.

Looks like cell phone related crashes are surpassing gun related injuries/deaths, but you won't see those stats in the media! Take away cell phones, not guns! Most of the people with guns use them responsibly. Most of the people with cell phones don't use them responsibly!

The women that was injured is a friend of mine. I agree that something needs to be done. That stretch of road is awful.
Ellen thanks for your thoughts and I feel the same way.
Gojo-I'm not even going to respond to your comments or waste my time reading them.

Hello Jenny,
I saw this accident, called 911 and pulled over to try and help your friend. How is she doing now? Do you have any updates?

It isn't just that stretch. The thing I've notice the last few years is people cutting in front of you but coming as close to your car as possible. It doesn't even matter if there is plenty of room in front of you, it is almost like a game.

Agreed, had a motorcycle come flying past me the other day. I was doing 80 coming up on the bend before 126 gets of and this guy flies by doing 90-95 and cuts in front of me with like 3 feet between me and a semi. Things like that are daily now, I have noticed that 80 in the fast lane is no longer fast enough for most.

gojo, I certainly hope that your comments are related to the person that cut that woman (my friend) off, and not to her - and even then, you clearly have no concern for the well-being of this poor woman or her family. She is the victim of this horrible accident, and as she goes into surgery this morning needs prayers and support, not a rant about cell phones and guns.

Who ever this is I agree with you. This woman is very special to a lot of us and we are all hoping and praying her surgery goes well today.....Gojo.....I think you need to take a moment and think what it would be like if this crash involed someone you loved and not some stranger....try putting your self in the other persons shoes before you open your mouth!

Seems like many drivers are just rude and don't care. Hope the woman is on the road to recovery.
Gojo - looks like you did not read and comprehend the story. She was cut off. Whether she was on her cell phone is irrelevant.

On gojo's behalf, whom I know very well, the first story did not indicate the woman was cut off. I don't think he undertsood the "victim" the was female. Now, back to my two cents...I just want to say I am sick and tired of soccer mom's driving their minivans and texting. I see it all of the time. If they aren't driving and texting. I walk in to school to drop my preschoolers off and all I see his mom after mom sitting their texting. This crap SHOULD be banned, (oh yeah, that's right it is)and YES it is in the same category as guns. Every lame liberal wants to blame guns for every death, when you have to look at traffic fatalities that involve the use of a cell phone, or distracted driving. I see jag bags reading, eating, talking, texting while oblivious to what is going on around them. A car traveling 80 mph can ruin alot of people's days, when you are not paying attention. AND to lala, it is against the law to be on the phone while driving, unless you have a hands free device. If she was on the phone, maybe she wasn't paying attention when the person allegedly cut her off. You only get one side of a story with the media.

I agree she does not belong on the phone nor does anyone while driving. You do have a point that perhaps she was not paying attention. Next time you are leaving school, check out all the parents on phones in the school zones, which is also illegal. I just wish the woman well and don't feel anyone should be blaming her since we don't know all the facts.

People, get off the phones. No need to be texting. I texted years ago. Been there, done that! Stop playing games on the phone, get a life. I never understood why we have millions of people buried in their phones!

Damn right I do Blochucks. Now if you owned a motor vehicle you would know that 80 is a must in the fast lane just to keep people from riding your ass. And that doesn't work everyday. It's either that or get stuck in the other two lanes behind all these damn soccer moms or semis.

I really dont care what she was doing or not doing, the fact of the matter is a good person was injured and needs prayers, not all the ranting, blaming, or whatever.. grow up people there is a time and a place for everything and this time is reserved for good thoughts for her and her family, not bashing.

Thanks Mark for helping my friend. She is doing good. She had to have surgery and is going to a rehab facility. She may need more surgery down the line. But she is with us and is keeping her head up and smiling and cracking jokes. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.
