Suspect who Manhandled Woman, 76, Robbed Her of $250 Nabbed, Police Say
Joliet cops were led to Vincent Bond because he left a fingerprint behind at the scene and was taped by a surveillance camera, Cmdr. Rich Demick said.
A Joliet man who shook a 76-year-old woman by the arm and demanded money was busted after a fingerprint and a surveillance camera photo linked him to the crime, Joliet police said.
Vincent E. Bond, 46, 1308 Demmond, was arrested just hours after the 1:30 p.m. Friday incident, in which he allegedly accosted the woman in an office where she works in the 200 block of North Hammes, Cmdr. Rich Demick said.
"He told her, 'Lady, give me the money,'" Demick said of the brazen daytime robbery. "He grabbed her by the left arm and left a bruise."
The victim turned over $250 and the suspect took off, he said.
In addition to finding a fingerprint at the scene that matched Bond's and the surveillance video, which gave them a look at Bond's face, the police also had the assistance of a witness, Demick said.
The person remembered Bond because he looked like he was in hurry, cutting a diagonal path across the lawn to get to the office, and because he exited in the same fashion only a couple of minutes later, Demick said.
The victim and the witness were able to identify Bond in a photo lineup, he said.
Other than the bruise, the victim was not injured.
Bond was charged with robbery and aggravated battery of a senior citizen, both felonies. He was also booked for a parole violation.
He's being held in the Will County jail in lieu of $300,000 bond.
