Since the 1960's BILLIONS's of dollars have been transferred to those on welfare. Now we have families that have been our 'Professional Poor' for many generations. Many of those on welfare have an “entitlement mentality” that taxpayer funded transfers from the government are as legitimate as a source of income as earning a living from a private-sector job

No Mr Potus, i need this money for Paul Ryan. He's an embarrassment to all Irish Catholics and he has to be defeated. I swear, he's a Protestant from the North. Catholics don't hate the poor and bow down to the rich like this pimp Ryan. The damn ingrate used the govt when his pappy died to suck the system dry but doesn't want anyone else to do that. Jeez, getting rid of SSI and medicare so rich supporters of the Monarchy can get tax cuts, he's definately a Protestant

The Daley's, Madigan's, Cullerton's, Quinn's, ect. are an embarrassment to all honest hardworking Irish Catholics. The state of Illinois has been run into the ground by these incompetent politicians.
Pat Magroin you are right the Catholics don't hate the poor and truly needy, but they do believe in working hard and pulling oneself up by your own bootstraps, not spending generations on welfare.

Actually he is worse his family made their fortune as Road contactors taking the State and Fed road -gas taxes with deep pockets, then he gamed the system getting SSI when the dad died! I would not say he was a Prod but he is no christian in the true meaning of the word, in Ireland during the famine the only relief came QUAKERS and the CHOCKTAW Indian nation Pat!
I have 12 yr's Catholic ed but I would be proud to be a Quaker if I were to ever do it again, and this is one reason I support the ST jOSEPH lakota School in SD rather than any in this archdiocese, another thing the records on the famine there were no priests that died of the English plague and only a few on record who helped their parishoners, I have two ancestors that were Famine imigrants in 1849 one was a orphan whose parents died in a coffin ship.

If nick cares to talk about "entitlement mentality" come talk to me. I work with folks that come every 1st quarter of the year that get real entitled about six to seven figure bonuses. Interesting, I bet Nick has no idea what % of his tax payer dollars are allocated to where; for that much most have idea they just open their mouths about being tax payers. Guess what little nicky darling everytime you make a purchase, get gas etc...you pay taxes....hence we all are tax payers.

You can't be serious homer. 8% in sales tax is not paying taxes. My family will pay well over 50% of our income in taxes. Little Nicky is right one Homer, get real. 1% of this country pays 90% of the tax burden. Get an education on economics before you make such a ignorant statement.

Chad, it may be time for you to get a new accountant if you are paying 50% of your income in taxes. Unless you are talking about "taxable" income after all of your deductions, expenses, credits, rebates, allowances, losses, etc.

The percentage of Americans on welfare under Obama is up 40% and welfare spending is up more than 100%. At least Clinton understood in order to have a strong economy you needed to cut welfare and put Americans back to work.

Chad, Clinton did indeed have a plan to cut welfare and put Americans back to work. Unfortunately many of the 'Professional Poor' who were removed from the welfare rolls found a way to circumvent Clinton's plan. They applied for Social Security Disability Income benefits. In the last few years there has been a 23% increase in the number of people on SSDI.

Chad,
Where are you getting your numbers? In August of 2012, the increase in welfare recipients was less than 10%, according to Forbes. (The linked article, by the way, is very critical of the president and his economic plans). In any case, we all know he took office during an enormous economic mess with high unemployment and homelessness, so it only make sense that many, many people would qualify for public assistance.

If you uneducated people researched the tax rate during the 1950s corporations paid much more and there was no offshore tax loopholes. PLEASE dont even believe me and research for yourselves! Then lets discuss war....there NEVER has been a war when taxes haevent been increased to pay for the war.... So now we have the longest war in history and no tax...even a tax decrease...are you people that stupid!!! Its simple economics! Stop watching faux news....and now the tinley patch for ignorant information!

that's what austerity, obstructionism and do nothingism is about , the !% have also in the samr time accumalted 100% of all new income while the middle class is becoming extinct! It is a miracle what PRES OBAMA has done without any support from Congrss which is exactly how they planned it 5 years ago and why the MORMON MAJ LEADER should be primaried if not it is way over due for a NEW center-left party not owned by BANKSTERS and Cayman islanders.

As far as taxes my accountant can't help. Lets do the math.

Fed payrole 33%
State payrole 5%
Property tax 5% of home vale
FICA 7%
Sales tax 8.25%
Gasoline taxes 31 cents per gal

There are more taxes like the alternative minimum, cap gains...

Add those up please, we'll over 50%

Chad, noted believe me I too add up all taxes to my income. First, sales tax and gasoline taxes are not charged to what you earn, only what you spend so not really able to be used in this. Second, federal payroll tax of 33% is not across all of your income, only for income over $217k. So say you had $250k in taxable income, ammortized out, you're looking at ~24% in federal taxes on that. Third, gross income != taxable income. You have a lot of deductions, expenses, credits, rebates, blah blah to reduce your taxable income.

@ Ed -- my source came from radio and interviews of Sen Sanders and Warren,on current and Thom Hartmann neither are owned by the banksters who also know the total after the printing presses stopped. The banksters have enough resources to stop a reaction from the street, isn't that everyone's concern except of course them and Cheney? Whose most famous --" didn't the Gipper say Deficuts ( DEBT) don't matter" well said for one of the top looters! Now the problem we are having is too many old people wanting what they paid into, lyin log cabin Dick and remember the guy with the base of the have's and have nots want that Trillion for the Banksters who else? lyin Ryan say he wants to save the system with a 8,000 voucher.!
Do u think the second largest growing settlement in America the VILLAGES FL filled with idiots approve of the lyin proposal? This was where LYIN brought his mom and the Medicare robber and Gov Fl to sell their snake oil Medicare-program during the election cycle. Now everywhere the infrastructure is being gutted because the same Banksters who should be in jail say so, these criminals as we now know get bigger with each austerity and that is why the numbers quoted by the two Sen are not in the Media or discussed on Faux or CNBC,
What is the disinfo-misinfo conversation is blame the big three and welfare queens not the real Mil-Indus-Congressional Queens, these dog and pony shows on taxes and hot button brain dead stuff delights the ungrateful dead!

Again the WARS on the credit card, part D Pharma gift and tax cuts are 13 TRILLION which OBAMA made a dent in by putting them in the budget and cutting 2 Trillion by cuts and ending the Wars, the 17 trillion CAME from the stimulus, rebates tax refunds for not paying taxes moving to the Caymans and opening up branches in Bainland China all done by the FED RESERVE , Henry Paulson, TIM GEITNER and Larry Summers before he got wet feet and left, Whether or not the 5 TRILLION debt left by Clinton is in the 17 only Elizabet and bernie can say propably is but!!!
