Sam's Recalls Salmon that May Be Tainted

Paramount Reserve products may be contaminated with listeria, which can be dangerous to pregnant women, elderly people an anyone with impaired immunity.

Yet another product recall has been issued, this one involving smoked salmon sold at Sam's Club in Illinois and 42 other states and may be contaminated with listeria.

Listerious causes food poisoning, and can be particularly dangerous and even fatal to pregnant women, newborns, the elderly and adults with impaired immune systems, according the U.S. Centers for Disease Control.

There is a Sam's Club in Joliet, located at 321 S. Larkin Ave. There are also stores located in Naperville, Woodridge and Tinley Park.

The products being recalled are Paramount Reserve 12-ounce and 1.25-pound packs distributed between Nov. 12 and Dec. 21, according to a Food Safety News bulletin.

The 12 oz. packages are marked with UPC 6 88264 86705 0, the bulletin said. The UPC code for the 1.25 lb pack is 6 88264 86664 0. The manufacturer is Tampa Bay Fisheries.

Products with those codes should be thrown away or returned to the store where it was purchased, the bulletin said.
