Ruby St. Bridge Reopening Delayed Till Feb.
Officials say the need for extra time is "due to additional unforeseen mechanical problems."
For the third time in two months, the reopening of the Ruby Street Bridge has been delayed.
This is the announcement that was issued by the city of Joliet:
"The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced a delay in the reopening of the Ruby Street Bridge. Due to additional unforeseen mechanical problems, extra time will be necessary to complete the repair work on the bridge. It is anticipated that the work will be completed, and the bridge re-opened, by Monday, February 18, 2013.
"For additional information contact Joliet Public Works Department at 815-724-4200."
Repair work began in June and was to be completed by Thanksgiving. That date was then pushed back to Jan. 1 because of the time needed to make a part that was required, state officials said.

Time for the city to set up ferry stations at each bridge connecting the east & west sides. Charge $1 per vehicle and maybe the budget deficit will decrease. Just kidding..... Or maybe not.

Uhh gee you must not live in joliet because if you did you' d realize A
there is no space for this and B the waterway is not wide enough for a ferry and C if a ferry was used it would block commercial waterway traffic which is already reduced due to the width of the river.

It seems like one of the bridges are closed every year and are never re-opened on time.Between the one way streets and the broken bridges I don't see how any business can survive downtown.

Yes Tony you are absolutely right! My business drops tremendously when a bridge is broken which seems like every other year
