Residents From Plainfield, Joliet Arrested after Black Friday Brawl: Police

Shoppers disrupted by melee; alleged combatants charged with mob action.

Black Friday shopping got a bit dicey in the wee hours of the morning, Nov. 23 at Louis Joliet Mall, according to police.

Officers from the Joliet Police Department were called to break up a brawl that allegedly started at Panera Bread and spilled out into the mall.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, it all started as a quarrel between four girls, and then their boyfriends entered the fray. Read the full article here.

Will County jail reports show the charges ranged from mob action in combination with aggravated battery and one for resisting arrest.

Along with a 16-year-old girl, two Joliet residents were arrested by Joliet police and taken to the Will County jail:

  • Maria Martinez, 18, was charged with felony mob action and aggravated battery. Bond is set at $15,000.
  • Julio Lopez, 19, was charged with mob action. Bond is set at $15,000.

From Plainfield, Joliet police arrested two men, who were booked into the county jail:

  • Juan L. Perez, 19, was charged with mob action and aggravated battery. Bond is set at $10,000.
  • Thaddeus A. Catrejon, 22, was charged with resisting arrest. There is no booking record for him at Will County jail.

From Chicago, Joliet police arrested:

  • Raymond Pizarro, 19, who was charged with mob action and aggravated battery. His bond was set at $150,000.

Police report information is provided by Joliet Police and the Will County jail. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions taken on a given day, and persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. If you or a family member are charged or cited and the case is subsequently adjudicated, we encourage you to notify the editor. We will verify and report the outcome.

This has been happening more than reported. Why do you think Westfield just sold it.
I don't let my wife shop there anymore. This mall is going to be vacant just like Jefferson street. When shoppers don't feel safe, they go elsewhere.

This happens because people in Illinois are not allowed to protect their businesses, every business in Joliet and Chicago are at risk of people tearing up their business...now look in states where the owners are allowed to pull the ole shotgun from behind the counter..People scatter.no one wants to be shot...Take a look at the footage when the riots hit californina the last time when Rodney king got beat up by police...The footage of the 2 oriental guys defending their property, people tried to break the windows..These 2 guys came out with their guns and people scattered...and they were left alone....every other business was burned to the ground..not theirs.....but at least one thing that's good about it....At least it was fist fighting...

I don't think that a gun would have made this situation better...in fact a lot more people would have been hurt. All for concealed carry/gun rights but not in this type of scenario. To send a message all involved should be put away for a long time, however we know that will never happen.

Nothing you described is illegal in Illinois for shop owners. Many businesses have guns located at them, right here in Illinois. It is completely legal. Why are you confusing walking around in public areas with a firearm, with a private business owner having a gun? They are completely different things.

The Illinois law is very clear on this;
"(a) a person commits the offense of unlawful use of weapons when he knowingly... Carries or possesses in any vehicle or concealed on or about his person except when on his land or in his abode or fixed place of business"

See that part about business? If you want a gun on you when you are at your own business(or home), no Illinois law is stopping you from doing so.

Unfortunately, I fear Butch is spot-on correct. If we don't collectively start taking steps to purge the "bad element" from our area, their presence will grow and our communities will decline.

Why is it that whenever we hear from someone involved in such actions, we learn they cannot spell or speak in a correct fashion?
