Police Recover Guns, Ammo Following Chase
Two men are in custody, accused of trying to flee Joliet police and throwing two handguns and ammunition from their SUV before being stopped.
Two Joliet men who threw handguns and ammunition from a vehicle on Interstate 80 near Center Street were arrested Tuesday by Joliet police.
The incident began with officers doing surveillance on a Cadillac SUV and a Chevy SUV parked at the Budget Inn Express at Larkin Avenue and McDonough Street, Joliet Officer Ed Johnson said. The owner of both is a possible suspect in a Rockdale shooting that occurred in November, he said.
When the vehicles left simultaneously, police pursued them, stopping the Cadillac SUV without incident on McDonough, near the U.S. Post Office, Johnson said.
However, the driver of the second ignored police efforts to stop him. With officers in pursuit, they hopped on to eastbound Interstate 80 and then exited at northbound Center Street, Johnson said.
Before they left the interstate, several items were thrown from the vehicle, he said.
When the Chevy finally pulled over, two passengers fled on foot, forcing officers to give chase and allowing the third man to drive away, he said.
Police later returned to I-80 and recovered a knit cap containing ammunition and 9mm gun, he said.
When they later realized they had both 9mm and .45-caliber rounds, officers returned to the scene to look for a .45-caliber revolver only to find the Chevy SUV driver already there and doing the same thing, Johnson said. They were able to locate the missing weapon.
As of Tuesday evening, Johnson said he did not know if either of the guns was used in the Rockdale shooting.
In custody and facing felony charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon are Rashawn Clayton, 17, of 205 Reichman, and David B. Veasy, 17, of 1617 Middletree. Both were also charged with possession of a firearm without a valid FOID card, illegal possession of ammunition without an FOID card and resisting/obstructing a peace officer, all misdemeanors.
Three other people were taken into custody but released without charges.
The pair are being held in Will County jail pending a Wednesday bond hearing.

So three were arrested in the first car, two fleeing on foot and the driver of the second car. Isn't that six arrests not two? Confusing story. Clear as mud Patch.

First 3 taken in then the next car got 2 and 1 got away. Its like one of those confusing. Stories on a comprehension test in school!

I won't lie -- this is a confusing story and it was difficult to write. I've made some adjustments to try to make it clearer. Only two arrests have been made so far, that of the two men who fled on foot. More arrests may be made. There may be more information forthcoming today.

Rockdale crime is not highlighted like the crime in Joliet. If you only went by the news that is reported you will think the only crime is in Joliet. Thats why Plainfield , Shorewood, Channahon etc.. are precieved as crime free. But stay out of Joliet!!

Lets try this again... THE LIES!!! These two young men are very wonderful boys, both having big plans for college just made some very bad decissions on who they surround themselves with. Believe me I know these gentleman personally! The story is plan and simple as stated above THE BOYS MADE BAD CHOICES! The two have never gotte in trouble with the law before. I pray for these two hard working young men for this was all a learning experience.
