Man Wielding Gun Robs Burger King near Mall
The suspect is described as being short and stocky and was wearing what looked to be a false beard, Joliet police said.
An armed robber sporting what appeared to be a fake beard held up the Burger King near the Louis Joliet Mall Sunday and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, according to Joliet police.
The man entered from the rear of the 3130 Plainfield Road fast-food restaurant at about 7:25 a.m. and walked directly behind the counter, police Cmdr. Rich Demick said. He then pulled out a .38-caliber revolver and ordered all of the employees into a back room, he said.
Producing a black bag, the suspect ordered employees to deposit everything from the cash drawers into it, Demick said. He then shepherded them into the store's freezer and told them not to come out for five minutes.
When they emerged, the employees immediately hit the alarm and locked the restaurant's doors, Demick said.
The suspect is described as a black male in his mid-30s standing about 5-foot-5 and weighing between 160 and 180 pounds. He had a mustache and what could have been a false beard and was wearing a dark jacket and pants.
Demick said the employees were not verbally threatened. They did not know whether the robber fled on foot or had a car, he said.
