Man Trying to Spend Fake $20 Bills Busted: Cops

The suspect told Joliet police someone swindled him with the counterfeit cash, and he was trying to recover his losses by spending the phony money in a store.

A Joliet man who tried to buy an xBox game card at Walmart using counterfeit $20 bills Wednesday night was arrested for forgery, Joliet police Cmdr. Rich Demick said.

Joseph Lewis Molette told police he had received the phony cash in a swindle and was attempting to recover his losses by spending it at the 2424 W. Jefferson St. store.

The Walmart clerk, however, recognized the money as being counterfeit and notified store security, who held Molette until police took him into custody, Demick said.

Molette, 22, of 413 State St., told officers after his arrest that he'd been given the counterfeit cash by a man he met in the parking lot of the Grapevine Bar & Grill, 2314 Plainfield Road, Crest Hill, Demick said. Molette agreed to give the man eight $10 bills in exchange for four $20 bills, only to learn later from a bartender that he had been duped, Demick said.

Molette is being held in the Will County jail in lieu of $35,000 bond. According to jail records, which are incomplete, he's been arrested several times since 2011 on charges that include driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of 30 to 500 grams of cannabis and reckless driving.

He should of just kept quite..There is so much counterfeit money put there I saw someone from certified call the cops for a phony $5...You can tell the person/ family that had it had no clue...but if you know and use it I guess that would clearly be a difference....Like money with drugs some states can arrest you for..when 98% of all money has a trace of some kind of drug on it...

Lmao..so a judge looking at pin just has so much to do with a guy using counterfeit money?...Counterfieting was one of Thee laws that was enforced even in George Washington days..along with weights and measurements...everyone knows not to purposely use counterfeit money..it's not like drugs....This kind of action takes away from the value of our dollar..just like "mint coin" makers being sued for printing U.S. prints and dropping the value of the dollar WORLD WIDE...again educate your self..your looking like an idiot..Want to keep spending more and more money on simple stuff...3 things mess with our monetary system..( our Bling Bling system) for you to better understand....1 other countries dropping the dollar because of sanctions,Rissia,China, all bought Iol from IRAN using gold not the dollar..because sanctions said no U.S. money for Oil in IRAN.we tried to stop people from buying oil from IRAN, 2 Printing of Counterfeit money...3 Corruption,to make a piece of paper worth more than gold...This is false money, false royalties...and something as simple as counterfeit money makes our dollar less valuable...when suppliers have to use more U.S. money than usuall guess who pays for that everytime we go to the store and buy food,clothes...things go from costing a couple of thousand dollars to buy to $50,000 and that's put on all of us....Education my friend don't know everything but know a little bit about a lot.
