Police Respond to Man Jumping off Cass Street Bridge

The man had already climbed out of the river, but asked to be taken to the hospital, according to police.

A verbal argument Friday morning ended with a man jumping into the DesPlaines River.

The incident began at a branch of National City Bank, where Cmdr. Brian Benton said a woman and a man were involved in a verbal domestic argument around 10:45 a.m.

"There was an argument between a male and female," Benton said. "When the officer had arrived, the subject took off on foot."

The male said he is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, and Benton said he did not know the cause of the PTSD.

Although bridge-jumping seems to happen often in , Benton said it is an infrequent occurrence.

"I'm sure the immediate access plays a role in it," he said of the number of bridges in Joliet.
