Chris Crichton was arrested for allegedly taking photos of a naked 4-year-old boy and keeping it on his computer, Will County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said.

Update/posted 1:25 p.m. Feb. 5:

A Joliet man described as a mentally disabled Trinity Services resident was charged with aggravated child pornography for taking photos of a naked 4-year-old boy, Will County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said.

A Trinity Services employee saw the photos on Chris Crichton's computer and contacted the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services on Jan. 10, Hoffmeyer said. The sheriff's department was called in to investigate on Jan. 18, and a warrant for Crichton's arrest was issued Jan. 30, she said.

Crichton allegedly look while at a relative's home over the Christmas holidays, she said.

Other than the child being unclothed, the photos were not explicitly sexual in nature, Hoffmeyer said. The charge is aggravated, however, because Crichton took them himself, she said.

Crichton, who is described as having a learning disability, has been a Trinity Services resident for the last decade, she said.

As a nurse I have taken care of multiple Trinity residents in our office. Every one I have had contact with has been severely mentally handicapped, most with a mental capacity of somewhere between 3yrs old and 8yrs old. How many of us would fault a 6yr old for taking a picture of a younger cousin in the bathtub or changing for bed? I'm sure most of us have at least one picture in our birthday suits as a child but no one charged our parents with pornography.
That said, I fully realize that mental disability does not mean "excused from the law". If the photos were taken for sexual purposes then he should be prosecuted. But being familiar with the level of disability of Trinity residents, I find it hard to believe he would have the capacity to take illicit photos of a child, load them onto his computer, and hide all this from his family. As for the mug shot, it clearly demonstrates his inability to understand the gravity of the situation.

All I can say is that Thank God I'm out of Trinity Services. There's a lot more information that will literally make your stomach hurl. Trinity Services pampers their clients like crazy. A person outside of Trinity - would've served and NOT got a slap on the wrist like Chris did. I bet you Trinity negotiated Chris's release for 2,000 bond. He's smart - don't let that crap fool you. If he can remember his social, phone number, and put together 2+2 and 5 x 3 then he's smart enough to know better. There's been a lot of other occasions where people have died in Trinity Services - for instance, a woman found outside of Oak Avenue in a pond. A pond? How can someone drown unless they don't know how to swim? If they don't know how to swim - why would they be around a pond? Go to the Trinity Services website, click on Get Involved then Giving....Scroll to the bottom and there's mention of including them on the will. If I was still there, there would be no way in hell I would even have them on my living will. Trinity Services makes me sick to my stomach!

Why is that paul because as a former employee of trinity, I know you were there for many years and went through issues yourself. As for all the other comments from all the other people, you have no idea what kind of person chris is. The question should be why was the temptation given to him in the first place. As a mother I would keep my child safe, as an advocate for disabled individuals, I would not let them be subject to that temptation. It takes a certain kind of person to have empathy for people who are less fortunate than ourselves, and have a kind heart.

To Time Is Money & Single Mom: You both seem to have a very limited capacity for both knowledge and empathy. Mentally ill people do not comprehend right from wrong as non-handicapped people do. If Mr. Crichton has been a resident of Trinity Services for 10 years, that speaks volumes about his grasp of "normal" behavior. Thank you, Heather Houck, for your good heart!
