Job Applications Being Accepted at Food Store

A job fair is being held this week to find employees for the new Tony's Finer Foods that's opening on Route 59.

If you were hoping to land a job at the soon-to-open Tony's Finer Foods, plan on filling out a job application Wednesday.

A fair will to hire employees was held Tuesday and will be again from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the 2300 S. Route 59 store.

According to a notice on the company's Web site, they are looking to fill all in-store positions and will be conducting interviews. Resumes can be presented but are not required.

The business is going in where the Strack & Van Til store used to be. The Joliet location -- which has a Plainfield mailing address -- will be the ninth in the Itasca-based chain of food stores in the Chicago and suburban Chicago market.

No opening date has been publicly announced, but Director of Human Resources Jim Marnos said in October that it would be before the end of the year.

Glad to see you finally figured out that this is actually in Joliet but so sad to see continued stories on food.

Hi, Ron -- We've always identified this store as being in Joliet, although most people think it's in Plainfield because of its proximity to the village. I'm not sure I understand your point on food stories, but to me the story's really about jobs, filling an empty store and sale/property taxes.

Who cares where it's technically located. It's providing jobs.

I "technically" live in Joliet but have a Plainfield mailing address...I still say I live n Plainfield because 1. It's less confusing and 2. My taxes go to the village.

You live in Joliet Stephane. You just admitted that. Having a mailing address has absolutely nothing to do with where you live. It is based solely on the nearest post office to your house. Your taxes go to the City of Joliet not to the Village of Plainfield. Perhaps you should actually take a moment to read your property tax bill and see the line 'City of Joliet' on there. You must've been duped by your builder that had a large billboard that said 'PLAINFIELD SCHOOLS' in large letters and joliet is small letters making you think you somehow live in Plainfield which clearly you do not.

No reason to get sour here. Having a mailing address has everything to do with where I live. It's my house. Not just some box for mail. And yes, I was mistaken that "Village of Plainfield" does not actually appear on my tax bill, however, less than 20% goes toward anything "Joliet." As far as I'm concerned, I live in Plainfield. Not that it matters, considering it's a trivial matter. Oh, and sorry, no duping here. There were no signs when I moved in as the builder was long gone when I got here. Absolutely nobody fooled me into buying my house.

Saying "I live in Plainfield" is much easier than saying, "Well, technically, I live in Joliet, but my kid goes to Plainfield schools and the Plainfield Post Office is, like, a mile closer than the Joliet one, so they decided to say we live in Plainfield when we really do not, but if you want me to be precise, I'd have to recite the legal description of my property which I don't have memorized, so I'm just going to say Plainfield because my mail says so and I don't want to confuse you anymore than I know you already are.

Lighten up.

Stephane, save yourself the aggravation. Ron whips this dead horse every chance he gets.

Ton, you should cheer up. Life is too short to be that crabby. Glad to hear about new employment opportunities in the area.

I don't but since I'm calling about the number of jobs available, I'll ask about that as well.

Here are the answers to the questions asked by readers about the new store: 1) They expect to hire about 200 people, most of whom will be part-time employees; 2) If you weren't able to make it to the job fair, you can apply online. Here's a link to their application: tonysfinerfood.com/employment-form/. The fair drew 700 people in its first day, and probably about 200 more just in the first hour of the second day. I'll be posting a story later this evening, so check back for more details.
