The former principal of Laraway Elementary School got probation for forging a criminal history so a friend with a record could get a job at her school.

Tashona Marshall, 32, of Chicago also took a 180 day sentence that was put off until the completion of her two-year probation. If she abides by the terms of her probation, Marshall likely won't have to do the time.

Marshall was hit with a $15,000 fine as well.

Marshall was arrested in April after the superintendent at her school district discovered she forged the criminal history of a friend looking for a job. The friend, Lashone White, 37, was hired on to the district's "food and nutrition team" in late 2011, according to a district newsletter.

But White had been convicted of second degree assault in connection with the death of a man outside a Long Island, NY, strip club in 2005, according to the book Headless Man in Topless Bar, a study of strip club-related homicides. White had done seven years in prison and was still on parole.

Marshall "knew his history would show he is on parole, so instead of sending his fingerprints to the Bureau of Identification for a background check, she used her own fingerprints and presented them to the school as his," according to a story in the Joliet Herald-News.

"This is someone who would not have been hired had his background been presented accurately," said Charles B. Pelkie, the spokesman for the Will County State's Attorney's Office.
