Motorcyclist Killed in Crash on Jefferson Street

The accident occurred late Saturday night near Joe's Bar; the cyclist's female passenger's injuries were not life-threatening, police said.

A Chicago man was killed shortly before midnight Saturday when his motorcycle was struck from behind by a Jeep, said Sunday.

Ron Seehoffer, 49, was pronounced dead at 11:57 p.m. Saturday at in , according to the Will County coroner's office.

Joliet police Cmdr. Al Roechner said Seehoffer was traveling with three other motorcyclists en route to Joe's Bar at 4220 W. Jefferson St.

Police are recontructing the accident to determine the speed and positions of the cycles and Jeep, but it appears that Seehoffer may have not realized his group was turning and his readjustment in order to make the turn may have resulted in his being struck from behind, Roechner said.

Seehoffer, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered serious head injuries, he said. Seehoffer's female passenger was ejected off the bike but her injuries were not life-threatening, he said. She was also transported to Provena St. Joseph.

It's not know if alcohol may have played a role, Roechner said. Toxicology tests are being done, and an autopsy will be conducted Monday.
