I think its a great idea. Maybe then low income people would use the little bit of money they have for the things they really need instead of alcohol. Good Job Mayor.

I think it is a horrible idea, I purchase the small bottles to cook with when a recipe calls for alcohol I also purchase single bottles of beer for making German recipes as I we don't drink beer in my house. It is way cheaper and easier for me to purchase in small quantities. It would take me 20+ Years to get through on large bottle of bourbon, whiskey or rum. Now if the mayor thinks this will stop low income and homeless from purchasing alcohol he is delusional.

Ok. So we will let the homeless people keep begging for change to buy a small bottle just so that once a year you can make a dish with alcohol in it. Its not targeting you, they are trying to keep the bums off the streets.

Okay Matt, I could see that this would be beneficial in the downtown area of Joliet. There is a huge population of homeless in the downtown area and around the businesses. I don't feel this will be a deter the homeless from being on the streets as there are many people without homes in this very poor economy.

Is Giarrante for real? Why don't we get to the root of the problem here - Jobs! While the state is doing everything it can to drive businesses and jobs out of Illinois, Nanny Tom is right there with them raising taxes in a bad economy, for a shortfall it turns out we didn't actually have -but he's still keeping the tax money. You want to reduce drinking, cut spending, lower taxes, improve the business environment so that the private sector can create jobs. Then you'll have more people working and fewer drinkers on the corner. Hey, then if they are serious about their drinking, they can buy the Costco size bottles? Giarrante will then have to just ban Alchohol. Wait....wasn't that tried before? How did that go? And if someone is of age, why would we think it's ok to tell them what they can and can't do?
In all seriousness, Americans don't need a Nanny State. Who made Tom Giarrante the arbitor of our rights and freedoms? He's not qualified, nor is it in keeping with American values. If you go down this road, where does it end. Does one guy get to decide to ban fast food Chicken joints just because HE doesn't agree with the owners personal views? Certain people have a GOD complex and think only they know better.

So, what are the homeless people going to buy instead? Small quantities of drugs? Sounds like a good plan to me. Idiots.

More Government nannying.

Folks - read the entire story and think about it before you post. Naperville did this and cleaned up the town. This is only free standing stores - you can still get your little cooking supplies at the big grocery stores. The homeless drunks will move to another area. This will also cut done on teenage drinking and availablity as the teens can often get a person to purchase for them as well as get servered at the smaller places. This has been proven to work in other areas. It isn't as if the mayor woke up this morning with the bright idea on his own.

What you will end up with is a bunch of " bums" as people label them pitching in on a bigger bottle,have more of them hanging around in one spot together,and they will be fighting more over who gets what....taking away smaller bottles leaves you to buy a bigger bottle and spend more money..which has one of the highers taxes on it...get it...it's all about the tax money, what does taking a smaller bottle
away do in reality....nothing....same thing as keeping locking people up that smoke marijuana..lol does absolutely no good, but what it does set precedent for is making more laws off of this law that will ban other things...

All I can say is Wow! Is this as big of an issue as this city can handle? They as a group, both present and prior took care of themselveves first. From the top down to every city worker. And this is what we are getting for our votes and money? How about being pro active about the major issues that this city has? There are so many. This is hardly one of them

Walk a couple hundred yards in any direction from any store that sells these little bottles and you will see discarded little bottles littering the landscape. I say good job Mayor. This is not the biggest isue in town ,but all issues need to be addressed.

Lock em up in jail for 20 years for litering, if that what really bothers you. But it is wrong in my opition to have a goverment take away basic liberties because "if they can't afford the big bottle then they shouldn't be drinking" ? They have as much right to drink as anyone, I'm concerened this kind of thinking creates more divisiveness than good. Make the same commitment to making this city better for all as you have for yourselves, and we will start to make progress.

Well looks like we will have people go to crest hill to but little bottles and bring them here to Joliet and sell them like drugs.lol I can see it no a man walks up with a coat opens it up instead of seeing watches and jewelry he will have little bottles of liquor,can sell them for a dollar or 2 more lol.....making things illegal raises the prices of things on the black market,Remember this back in the day 1 million worth of Cocaine used to fill half a room,now it sits on the end of a small table making it more worth it to smuggle,when 1 package of cocaine is worth a million well that's what prohibition & the governments did.
