Joliet Township Awarded 'Mighty Message' Award by the Township Officials of Illinois
The Joliet Township Officials were among some 1,000 township officials who participated in the 2012 Annual Education Conference, sponsored by the Township Officials of Illinois (TOI) and held at the Prairie Capital Convention Center in Springfield, November 11-13, 2012.
The Township Officials of Illinois annually holds its conference to keep officeholders up to date with the latest developments in local government management, fiscal practices, and general assistance. This year’s sessions addressed the upcoming election cycle, the Cemetery Oversight Act, grant writing, intergovernmental agreements, TIF Districts’ impact on townships, the Freedom of Information Act, budgets and much more.
Each year, the TOI presents awards in various categories to recognize Townships for their efforts in continuing education, programs for seniors and youth and mass communication with constituents. Joliet Township was recognized with the “Mighty Message” Overall Award for its entries in the Newsletter and Internet Web Site categories 15,000+ population.
Supervisor Vera commented, “we feel it’s very important to inform our community of the programs and events which the Township sponsors.” The Township also received the award in November 2009, after just 3 issues of the newsletter had been published and mailed and the website was made public.
The Township was also honored this year by having one of its own, become the President of the TOI Association. Trustee Jeffery M. Wallace was sworn in as President at the Annual Banquet on November 13 at the Springfield Hilton. Chief Justice Thomas Kilbride officiated over the ceremony.
