The GED Plus is a special enlistment program designed for new recruits without a GED or high school diploma to get a second chance to complete their education needs and enlist into the Army National Guard. Since its inception in 2006, GED Plus has graduated more than 13,000 recruits to include 317 from the Illinois Army National Guard.
While the program is selective and not all military applications are able to attend, both Woodman and Salazar were able to enroll into the program.
Salazar will assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion 178th Infantry Regiment in Chicago.
