City's Warming Centers Open Again for Cold Snap

The City of Joliet reminds residents to take precautions to ensure their health, safety and well-being during days of
extreme temperatures.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), beginning today, Thursday, January 31, 2013, temperatures will be dropping into the low teens. Nightly temperatures will remain in the low teens through Sunday night, February 3, 2013.

Whenever temperatures are predicted to be at, or below, 15 degrees the City of Joliet sends out a Sheltering Reminder to its residents.

Residents can seek shelter at the following locations:

  • Both the Downtown and Black Road Library branches-9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Monday-Friday, Saturday: 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM and Sunday: 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM
  • Louis Joliet Mall-Monday to Friday 10:30 AM to 8:30 PM, Saturday: 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM and Sunday: 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM
  • Daybreak 611 E. Cass-overnight warm shelter will be open
  • Morningstar Mission 350 E. Washington St.-overnight warm shelter will be open

Please remember to check on the elderly, those with medical conditions, and those with special needs
during periods of extreme cold weather.
